Getting Around BGC

Getting into and around Bonifacio Global City (BGC) can be confusing to first-time visitors. Traffic flows and patterns can also be tricky during peak hours and weekends. Here are some tips to help make your drive or commute to BGC smoother:

Understanding the Layout of BGC

BGC Boundaries: Bonifacio Global City is a 240-hectare area generally bounded by Kalayaan Ave, Makati in the north; C-5 Road on the east, Manila Golf Club on the west and ends at the intersection of 5th Ave and Old Lawton Avenue in the south (aka the South Gate).

McKinley Hills and McKinley West are officially not part of BGC but close enough that we include their businesses and attractions in this site. These townships are owned and developed by Megaworld Corporation, a pioneer in mixed-use real estate development. Uptown in BGC is also owned and developed by Megaworld Corp. so they are heavily invested in the area.

Grid Pattern: Streets in BGC are mostly laid out in a grid pattern with Avenues going north-to-south and Streets going east-to-west. Addresses are normally given in a combination of the two (ex. “1st Ave corner 31st street”). Note that many avenues and streets are one-way traffic only — you can see the flow in Google Maps.

Driving into and around BGC

Driving into and around BGC, it’s best to know the destination address beforehand (check the closest Ave-street intersection) and any nearby landmarks. Check out the two nearest parking spots on the map before you head out.

  • Use GPS Navigation: Apps like Google Maps or Waze are great tools for real-time traffic updates and the fastest routes to BGC. They’ll help you avoid traffic jams and road closures.
  • Familiarize Yourself with Main Roads: The main routes to BGC are via C-5, EDSA, or the Skyway (SLEX). Depending on where you’re coming from, these may be your best options.
    • From Quezon City or North Manila: Use C-5 or take the Mindanao Avenue route.
    • From South Manila or Makati: The Skyway is the fastest, especially if you’re coming from the south or EDSA.
    • From Makati: BGC is accessible through 5th Avenue, or you can take the Kalayaan Flyover.
    • From Pasig Ortigas or Quezon City: Use the BGC-Ortigas Link Bridge to avoid traffic on C-5.
  • Peak Hours: Traffic in and around BGC can get heavy during rush hours (typically 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM). If possible, plan your trip outside of these hours to avoid congestion.
  • Weekend Road Closures: BGC is a popular spot for events and gatherings.  5th Avenue between 30th & 28th street is closed to vehicles on weekends which may not show on your navigation app
  • Traffic Enforcers: BGC has strict traffic enforcement, especially for parking violations. Make sure you’re parked legally and not blocking any spaces or lanes.
  • Pedestrian Signals: Always follow pedestrian signals and give way to people walking on crosswalks.

Parking

Find Parking Early: BGC has many parking buildings, but they can fill up quickly, especially on weekdays. Look for parking also in shopping malls like SM Aura, Bonifacio Stopover, or Central Square. Paid Street Parking: In some areas during weekends, there are paid street parking spaces. Always check for proper signage, as the area is regularly monitored by traffic enforcers.
